There is one town that you can visit whether you are in Africa, Asia, America, Australasia or Europe – Chinatown.

It has become part of the history of many great cities, including London where it emerged in the 18th century as Chinese sailors settled at the docks. The modern day Chinatown is now centred around Gerrard Street.

I like to wander through this town to remind me of my travels in Sth East Asia and to try strange and wonderful foods (like mooncakes during the lunar festival or dim sum). The shop windows are always fun and it is also a good place to find a maneki-neko (lucky cat) from Japan.

The best time to visit Chinatown is during a festival. The next one is Chinese New Year with dragon and lion dancers to bring in the Year of the Snake.
