Egyptian Avenue

There is a part of London where you can take Egyptian Avenue to the Circle of Lebanon, a ring of vaults surrounding an ancient cypress tree. This all lies in Highgate Cemetery.

The Friends of Highgate Cemetery was  formed to save such structures when the gates were closed in 1975. They are gradually restoring the tombs and vaults, but the West Cemetery is still wonderfully overgrown and a home to animals such as foxes.
