Silver Cities

There is a completely different way of viewing cities that I never considered until I visited the Barber Gallery in Birmingham. They are running an exhibition called Cityscapes: Panoramic Views on European Coins and Medals. Scenes from cities in Europe are captured on the gold and silver coins displayed. The top image is Cologne from a coin struck in 1705 and the bottom image is the Port of Agrigento from 1839.

It is part of a series of exhibitions on Art and the City on at the Barber Gallery at the moment. You can find out more at their website: www.barber.org.uk/index.html
